我国在引力波研究方面起步较晚，人才储备不足(poor reserve of talents)。科学家表示将通过加强国际合作，尽量缩小差距(narrow the gap)。从上世纪70年代的自主研发引力波探测器(gravitational wave detector)，到如今的"天琴计划"、"阿里实验计划"、"空间太极计划"，中国科学家在"捕捉"引力波、探索宇宙初创奥秘的征程中一直在奋起直追。
有人担心，美国LIGO方面的发现是否意味中国在这一领域的研究晚了一步，从而导致中国本土引力波探测工程(China's domestic gravitational waves project)"天琴计划"意义大减。对此相关人士表示，此次美国发现引力波对"天琴计划"并无太大影响。LIGO此次发现引力波是孤立事件(an isolated event)，仍需其他引力波实验支持(require support from further experiments)。
"天琴计划"的部分关键技术研究已有具体进展(make progress on some key technologies)，具体目标主要分四步：第一步，开展地球与月亮之间的测距(ranging)，以期获得关键性的月地测距技术。第二步，发射一颗卫星来验证爱因斯坦广义相对论的重要假说"等效原理"(equivalence principle)以及广义相对论的其他细节。第三步，发射两颗卫星测量地球重力场(gravitational field)的分布，这也与我国矿藏、水源等资源息息相关，并为第四步做技术准备。最后一步是发射三颗高轨卫星(launch three high-orbit satellites)进行引力波探测。
据悉，我国引力波研究的"阿里实验计划"将由中科院高能物理研究所牵头，依托国家天文台在阿里建设的观测站进行。这一计划旨在实现对原初引力波(primordial gravitational waves)的最灵敏搜寻，检验极早期宇宙暴涨理论。
中国科学院16日公布了空间引力波研究与探测的"空间太极计划"。按照这一计划，中国将在2030年前后将发射三颗卫星组成的引力波探测星组，用激光干涉方法探测中低频波段引力波(detect medium- and low-frequency waves)。主要科学目标是观测双黑洞并合和极大质量比天体并合时产生的引力波辐射，以及其他的宇宙引力波辐射过程。
