常新萍，女，应用语言学博士，语言学副教授，硕士生导师。1985年毕业于河南大学外语系，1989年获得语言学硕士学位（河南大学），1996年获得应用语言学博士学位（广东外语外贸大学）。1996年9月至今在中山大学外国语学院英语系任教。2000年-2001年到美国伊利诺伊大学厄本-珊贝分校做访问学者。2008年-2009年在英国剑桥英语及应用语言学研究中心做访问学者。
主要学术成果：
（1）发表学术论文近20篇；
（2）编写广东省公务员考试教材和阅读书目两套；主编教材类英语读物多本；
（3）主持和参加校、市、省、国家级项目若干个；

本科生课程：综合英语、英语语法、泛读、现代语言与学习策略、英语变体、语义学 等
研究生课程：实验设计与统计学、语言测试 、现代语言学 等
招收和指导研究生：至今已招收和指导硕士生60多人。
